About
We are Heather Lea and Dave Sears and starting in the fall of 2015, we will begin our self-guided adventure around the world on two BMW F800s. We sold our houses, businesses and vehicles and paid off all loans and credit cards. Simplified, we are starting our lives again from scratch on the seat of a motorcycle.
Why? I have a voracious appetite for new places and Dave has an insatiable need to see those places via as many remote backroads as possible.
Our Route? First leg: Canada through the U.S down the Baja into Mexico mainland, then Central and South America, up to the Yukon, NWT and Alaska. For the second leg: Africa, Europe, Russia, Kazakhstan and Mongolia, returning from North Korea. See where we’ve been so far!
How long? We plan to take up to two years to complete our full circle around the world, which will allow us much time to see and do what we want when we want.
Heather Lea: I’ve had the good fortune to have 20 years of freelance writing experience with over 60 published articles and stories in various travel analogues and magazines such as Canadian Geographic, The Canadian Alpine Journal, Mountain Life, Women’s Adventure, Climbing and Gripped. I hope this trip will bring me many stories to tell along with washboard abs and tropical skin.
Dave Sears: As a skilled contractor by trade, Dave has the very important job as the overall handyman and mechanic for our trip. He is also the navigator and will act as my stunt double when those remote dirt roads get a little too technical. Dave hopes he doesn’t melt while riding in some of the very hot countries we have listed on our route.
Sounds like a great time if there’s anything you need ,I’ll help out if I can we meet briefly in Skagway at the harbor master, parking lot,
Right on, thanks Bill!
It was so great to meet you both in Chicken. Finn was so enamored and inspired so now I am sure he will be planning doing something like this as soon as he turns 18. You both were all he talked about the entire night. Come and see us on our tiny island when you get back from this grand adventure.
Robin and Finn Magonegil
Thank you Robin! We can’t wait to come visit. Finn is a great kid, we’re excited to hear from him when he gets his dream underway!
Is this the same Dave Sears, with whom I did a ski weekend at Mt. Cain several years ago, who also had a relative on Quadra Island, and who worked with an outdoor gear company in Seattle. If so, I too do a fair bit of adventure motorcycling now. Brent Henry, Quadra Island.
